PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia District Attorney announced Thursday that Khalif Workman, a former correctional officer, pled guilty to his involvement in a contraband trafficking scheme at Riverside Correctional Facility in 2021. Workman, born January 18, 1992, admitted to charges including Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession with Intent to Manufacture or Deliver a Controlled Substance, Dealing in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities, Conspiracy, and Bribery.
The investigation began when a correctional officer found over 100 grams of narcotics in the cell of a pre-trial detainee following a tip-off. An iPhone found during the search revealed messages and media related to the scheme, uncovered by a Philadelphia Police Detective with a search warrant. Evidence showed that narcotics were bought via CashApp accounts, and a woman was used as an intermediary to inform Workman when the contraband was ready for delivery into the facility.
Throughout the scheme, Workman accepted 15 bribes, totaling over $23,000. Investigators found that Workman used the money to buy property in Philadelphia.
