Victim Targeted in Disturbing Hate Crime in Northwest DC

Washington, DC – A disturbing assault in Northwest DC has led to a call for public assistance in identifying the suspect involved.

On October 12, at approximately 9:44 a.m., the victim was walking in the 800 block of 6th Street, Northwest, when the suspect approached and assaulted them. As the suspect fled the scene, they made remarks targeting the victim’s ethnicity.

Surveillance cameras captured images of the suspect, which may aid in the investigation.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or has information about the incident is urged to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text tips to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The D.C. Metro Police Department is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of individuals responsible for crimes committed in the District of Columbia.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this offense as potentially motivated by hate or bias. The designation may change as the investigation progresses. The Special Liaison Branch is assisting with the investigation.
