PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Authorities are searching for a suspect in connection with an arson incident early Tuesday morning near the Mikveh Israel Congregation Synagogue in the city’s 9th District, according to a statement by the Philadelphia Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on October 22, when a man was seen setting a dumpster on fire next to the synagogue, located at 44 North 4th Street. Police reported that the flames caused damage to a window of the historic building, which serves as one of the oldest congregations in the nation.
The Central Detective Division released a description of the suspect based on surveillance footage. The individual is described as a white male with a thin build and facial hair, wearing a blue hat, gray sweatshirt, blue jeans, gray sneakers, and carrying a backpack.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to come forward. A video clip capturing the suspect has been made available to assist the investigation.
Philadelphia police are asking the public to contact the Central Detective Division with tips or to reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
