Body of 18-year-old shot to death found near vent shaft in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — D.C. police have opened a homicide investigation after the body of an 18-year-old man was discovered Friday morning in Southeast D.C.

Police responded to the 2600 block of Dunbar Road around 6:55 a.m. on November 8, after a caller reported finding human remains near a vent shaft. When officers arrived, they found the body of Alexander Pavion-Rios of Northwest D.C. in a state of decomposition.

DC Fire and EMS confirmed that Pavion-Rios was deceased. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where officials determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds and ruled it a homicide.

Police in D.C. are asking if anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 202-727-9099 or to send an anonymous tip by texting 50411.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the teens death.
