WASHINGTON, D.C. — A stolen vehicle linked to a Friday night carjacking in Northwest D.C. was located hours later by a police helicopter, leading to the arrest of one suspect while another remains at large.
The incident began around 9:56 p.m. on the 1900 block of 8th Street, Northwest, where the victim reported being confronted by two individuals while seated in a vehicle. The suspects brandished a firearm, demanded the car and other belongings, and fled the scene. The victim was unharmed.
Early Saturday morning, MPD’s Air Support Unit, using the Falcon 1 helicopter, spotted the stolen car driving in the Third District. The vehicle was tracked to the 1200 block of Euclid Street, Northwest, where officers moved in, apprehending 27-year-old Maurice Nelson of Southeast D.C. Nelson was found with the victim’s stolen property.
Nelson has been charged with armed carjacking, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, and fleeing law enforcement. A second suspect managed to escape and remains at large as the investigation continues.
Officials are asking anyone with information about the case to call (202) 727-9099 or text the MPD’s tip line at 50411. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
