Charlestown, MA – Late in the night around 11:00 PM, police officers patrolling near Polk Street and Bunker Hill Street noticed a vehicle running a stop sign at high speed. The officers pursued the vehicle, witnessing it disregard another stop sign before finally halting it at Chelsea Street and Vine Street.
The officers identified both the driver and passenger of the vehicle, deciding to investigate further. They deemed it necessary to conduct a pat-frisk for weapons, instructing both individuals to exit the vehicle.
During the frisk of the passenger, he resisted by placing his hands in the front pocket of his hoodie and attempting to flee. Following a struggle, police detained him and found a 9mm Ruger Max-9 firearm with one bullet in the chamber and nine in the magazine.
The 17-year-old passenger was arrested and faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest, pending arraignment in Charlestown District Court. The driver received a citation for failing to stop at stop signs and speeding.
