Authorities seek suspect in arson at Cumberland tire shop

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect caught on surveillance video setting fire to a local tire shop early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at D&K Tires on Greene Street at approximately 4:30 a.m. Surveillance footage shows a white male suspect, approximately 5’8” with a large build, walking down Greene Street from the direction of Dollar General. The man is seen stopping at the shop’s air conditioning unit, where he ignited a flammable device before walking away with a noticeable limp or uneven gait.

The fire, which was set on top of the unit, caused damage to the business. The suspect was wearing loose-fitting pants, possibly sweatpants, and a flannel shirt at the time of the incident.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and the City of Cumberland Fire Department are leading the investigation and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be reported to the Western Regional Office at 301-766-3888 or 301-729-5540.

Authorities continue to investigate the arson as they work to identify and locate the individual responsible.
