RANDALLSTOWN, Md. — A retired factory worker from Randallstown struck it big in the Dec. 2 evening Maryland Lottery Pick 5 drawing, taking home a combined $125,000 with three winning tickets.

The Baltimore County resident realized his windfall while checking numbers on the Maryland Lottery app. “I was like, ‘Wow! I actually won it,’” he said after discovering his tickets perfectly matched the winning numbers.

The lucky player scored two $50,000 prizes and a $25,000 win with a pair of $1 straight bets and a $.50 straight bet. He revealed that his winning numbers were chosen based on a relative’s birthday and noted that he plays regularly but increases his bets on Mondays and Fridays.

The winner plans to use his prize money to assist family members and settle personal expenses. “I am going to help my kids, grandchildren and use the rest to pay off my car,” he said.

The winning tickets were purchased at Liberty Wine & Spirits on Brenbrook Drive in Baltimore County, earning the retailer a $1,250 bonus for selling the tickets.

A Randallstown man’s birthday-inspired bet turned a routine lottery play into a $125,000 triumph.
