TANEYTOWN, MD – A Taneytown resident won $30,000 on a $3 Diamond Bingo scratch-off ticket purchased on his way to work, bringing an unexpected windfall to his Carroll County household.

The winner bought the ticket on Dec. 18 at the 7-Eleven store at 11922 Main Street in Libertytown. After scratching the ticket in his truck, he revealed the top prize on the fourth of four bingo cards by matching the caller’s numbers in an X-pattern.

He described the moment as shocking and said he carefully checked the ticket multiple times before sharing the news with his wife and grandmother. His grandmother, who first introduced him to playing the Lottery at age 18, was emotional upon seeing the ticket.

While the prize is not considered life-changing, the winner plans to use it to pay off a vehicle loan and either complete a garage or add an extension to his home, which will provide a big financial boost for his family.

The 7-Eleven that sold the winning ticket will receive a $300 retailer bonus, equal to 1% of the prize.
