Cumberland man arrested for assaulting two children inside home on Memorial Avenue

A Cumberland man remains jailed without bond after allegedly assaulting two children in a weekend incident, authorities said.

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Cumberland man was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting two children inside a home on Memorial Avenue, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Officers responded to the residence after receiving a report of an assault. The caller informed police that an intoxicated man had become enraged during an argument regarding the children.

Police determined that the suspect, identified as Robert Christopher Vincent, 31, kicked open a bedroom door where the children, ages nine and eleven, were located. He then assaulted them, causing minor injuries.

Vincent was taken into custody and charged with two counts of second-degree child abuse and two counts of second-degree assault. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
