ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The New Jersey State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in an animal cruelty investigation after four deceased pit bull mixes were found in dog food bags along the Garden State Parkway.

On February 27, at approximately 11:00 a.m., troopers responded to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s Telegraph Hill Maintenance Yard after NJTA maintenance workers discovered the remains near milepost 119.4 on the southbound local roadway. Authorities determined the dogs had injuries consistent with dog fighting.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or has information about possible dog fighting rings to contact the Troop “D” Holmdel Criminal Investigation Office at 732-441-4500 ext. 74.

State police are working to identify those responsible as they investigate what appears to be a case of illegal dog fighting.
