Gustavo Juarez-Perez of South Toms River charged for killing wife Saturday night

SOUTH TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A South Toms River man has been charged with murder after authorities say he killed his wife in their home Saturday night.

Gustavo Juarez-Perez, 38, was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Cheyanne Juarez, 30, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

Police responded to a 911 call around 9:15 p.m. on March 8 regarding an unconscious woman at a residence on Hummel Drive. Officers arrived to find Cheyanne Juarez unresponsive on the floor with blood on her face and a belt around her neck. Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, South Toms River Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Juarez-Perez was responsible for his wife’s death. He was taken into custody at the home without incident and is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Authorities credited the swift collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies in securing the arrest.
