Man Fractures Skull of Young Child Because She Threw His Phone

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ill. – A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a two-year-old child was hospitalized with critical injuries, including a fractured skull and brain bleed, Will County authorities said.

Deputies responded to the 21500 block of W. Franklin Circle at 6:50 p.m. on March 15 for a report of an unconscious but breathing child. Emergency responders noted suspicious injuries, including bruising to the child’s face and abdomen, and transported her to a local hospital before she was transferred to a Chicago facility for further treatment.

During questioning, Jordan Padilla of Plainfield made statements inconsistent with the child’s injuries before admitting he struck her in the face with his elbow, detectives said.

Padilla was charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery, and remains in custody at the Will County Adult Detention Facility awaiting his initial court appearance.

The incident was triggered after the young girl threw Ebner’s phone.
