ABERDEEN, MD – A quiet evening at home turned into a major payday for one Aberdeen resident after he discovered a $500,010 win from the March 24 Powerball Double Play drawing.

The Harford County man, using the alias “Double the Fun,” claimed his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on Monday, joined by his girlfriend. He regularly adds the Double Play feature to his Powerball tickets and matched all five white balls in the secondary drawing, earning the second-tier $500,000 prize. An additional $10 came from matching numbers on a separate line.

Double Play, an optional $1 add-on to Powerball, gives players a second chance to win with the same numbers in a separate draw that takes place 30 minutes after the main event. Prizes in Double Play can reach up to $10 million.

The win went unnoticed for several days. It was only while watching television at home that the man checked his ticket and saw the matching numbers. The couple was unaware of the size of the win until confirming it later.

The prize will go toward paying off bills, according to the couple.

The winning ticket was purchased at Carsins Run Liquors on Churchville Road in Aberdeen. The retailer receives a $1,000 bonus for selling the second-tier winning ticket.
