WILKES-BARRE, PA — A man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly striking a woman multiple times with his fists and a laundry hamper during a domestic altercation on Hutson Street, according to city police.

At approximately 5:41 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence. Upon arrival, police made contact with a 30-year-old woman who said she had been attacked by 32-year-old Jeffrey Edouard during an argument about money.

According to the woman’s account, Edouard hit her repeatedly with a closed fist and then used a plastic laundry hamper to strike her several more times. Authorities said the woman sustained visible injuries as a result of the assault.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Police took Edouard into custody at the scene without incident and transported him to City Headquarters for further processing.

“The altercation turned physical when Edouard began hitting the woman with his hands and then with the hamper,” according to the police report filed after the incident.

Domestic incidents remain a frequent cause of police responses in Wilkes-Barre, especially those involving physical violence between individuals with a personal relationship. Law enforcement officials emphasized that swift response times and witness cooperation are essential to handling such cases effectively.

Tuesday’s arrest adds to a series of recent domestic-related incidents reported within Luzerne County, though no pattern of escalation has been indicated by police.

The woman’s hospitalization and Edouard’s arrest marked the latest domestic incident to prompt emergency response on Hutson Street.
