A Glen Burnie man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly brandishing a handgun during a road rage confrontation on eastbound Route 100, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Officers responded around 8 p.m. to reports of an armed driver near Oakwood Road in Glen Burnie. The 58-year-old victim told police the suspect pointed a handgun at him while driving. The victim followed the suspect’s vehicle until police intercepted it near Appalachian Drive and Mountain Road.
During the traffic stop, officers located a loaded Glock Model 19 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle’s center console. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Carlos Mengana Alonso of Glen Burnie, was taken into custody without incident. Police did not disclose whether Alonso and the victim knew each other prior to the encounter.
As of Friday, the specific charges Alonso faces have not been publicly detailed by authorities.
Police recover loaded firearm during traffic stop
The Anne Arundel County Police Eastern District is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have not said what may have led to the confrontation or if additional charges are pending.
The department has not released Alonso’s booking photo or information on his bond status.
Officials have not indicated whether the handgun was legally owned or if Alonso had a permit to carry the weapon.
