WASHINGTON, D.C. — A violent start to Mother’s Day unfolded across the District early Sunday as four separate shootings left at least nine people injured, including a teenage boy, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The latest incident occurred just before 3 a.m. near the intersection of 9th and U streets NW. Officers already on patrol reported hearing gunfire in the 1900 block of 9th Street. Responding to the shots, police discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds: a 17-year-old male and two adult men.
Emergency crews transported the victims to nearby hospitals. Police said the teenager sustained serious injuries, while the adult males were treated for injuries considered not life-threatening. Authorities have not disclosed whether the three victims knew one another.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and suspect information remains unavailable as detectives continue their investigation.
According to police, the 9th Street shooting was the last of four separate gunfire incidents across the city between midnight and early morning hours.
Multiple shootings investigated across the city
Two shootings took place around midnight in different parts of the city, leaving four people wounded. Another shooting was reported around 3:30 a.m. along H Street NW, where two individuals were also struck by gunfire. Details of the circumstances and victim identities in those cases have not been released.
Authorities have not said whether any of the shootings are connected. Investigators from multiple precincts remain on scene and are collecting surveillance footage and witness statements.
The series of shootings comes as D.C. officials continue to address concerns over rising gun violence in parts of the city.
As of Sunday morning, all incidents remain under active investigation.
