5K raises $85,000 to support individuals with disabilities in Ocean County

LAKEWOOD, N.J. — More than 700 participants gathered Saturday for The Arc, Ocean County Chapter’s 23rd Annual Step Up for The Arc Walk and 5K at the Jersey Shore BlueClaws stadium, raising $85,000 to benefit people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The event, held May 17, marked a record-breaking year for the organization’s signature fundraiser. All proceeds will directly support The Arc’s residential, vocational, and family support services in Ocean County.

“This is our most successful Step Up for The Arc ever,” said Executive Director Laura Williams. “It’s wonderful to come together with The Arc family and friends for this fun, inclusive event.”

Teams participating in the walk and race raised money for specific wish list goals. The Lightning Laurel Oaks team plans to use their share for a whale watching trip, Mon-Ster Wellness will purchase flag football gear, and the Adult Education Center (AEC) will fund new business ventures for job creation.

Funds to enhance programs and opportunities for 1,000 clients

The Arc, Ocean County Chapter supports approximately 1,000 individuals and their families with services ranging from housing and job training to transportation, clinical support, and recreation.

The annual walk and 5K is designed to build community awareness and promote inclusion, with all funds going toward expanding and improving resources for those with disabilities.
