QUEENS, N.Y. — An off-duty New York City corrections officer was arrested early Thursday morning in Queens on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police.
Eaugene Russell, 41, was taken into custody at approximately 4:32 a.m. within the confines of the NYPD’s 109th Precinct, which covers areas including Flushing, Whitestone, and College Point. The arrest followed a vehicle stop during which Russell was alleged to be impaired.
Russell, a city corrections officer, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired, and refusal to take a breath test. No injuries or accidents were reported in connection with the arrest.
The NYPD confirmed the arrest in an incident report released Thursday. Russell was off duty at the time and operating a personal vehicle.
As of Thursday evening, the Department of Correction had not issued a public statement regarding the arrest. It is unclear if any administrative action has been taken.
