HANOVER, Md. — A Hanover woman who only plays the Maryland Lottery when she feels compelled to do so just scored a $100,000 win on a $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off ticket.
The winner, who describes herself as an occasional player, purchased the $50 ticket at Crofton Liquors on Crain Highway after being struck by a sudden feeling on her way home from work. Instead of playing her originally intended game, she opted for the $5,000,000 Fortune ticket, then waited until she got home to scratch it.
That decision led to the discovery of a second-tier prize worth $100,000 — a moment she shared with her fiancé over dinner. The couple had previously won $10,000 from two scratch-offs months earlier and had paused playing, but her recent return to the game paid off again.
She told Lottery officials that her approach is based on “Trust the Intuition,” the name she chose to represent her win.
Winnings to support wedding, caregiving, and savings goals
The prize money will help fund their upcoming small wedding and provide financial support for the winner’s role as her mother’s primary caregiver. The majority of the funds, she said, will be set aside in savings.
A seafood dinner in Annapolis is among the immediate plans to celebrate the win.
The $5,000,000 Fortune game launched in February and still has all three of its top-tier $5 million prizes unclaimed. Following this win, seven of nine $100,000 second-tier prizes remain available.
