New Jersey weather forecast: Warm today with rain chances increasing into the weekend

Warm and dry conditions Thursday give way to increasing rain chances starting Friday afternoon and continuing through the weekend.

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey residents can expect warm and partly sunny conditions Thursday before increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms move into the region heading into the weekend.

Today, the forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 88 degrees. Winds will remain light, becoming southwest around 5 mph during the afternoon.

Tonight, skies will turn mostly cloudy with a low around 65. Winds from the southwest will ease to calm conditions overnight.

Friday will bring a 30% chance of showers after 2 p.m., though much of the day will remain partly sunny with a high near 83. Winds will remain calm before shifting south around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Weekend rain outlook

Friday night, isolated showers may linger, mainly before 8 p.m. Skies will become increasingly cloudy with a low near 62. The chance of precipitation remains at 30%, with light rainfall amounts expected.

Saturday brings a higher likelihood of rain, with showers likely throughout the day and possible thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Skies will remain mostly cloudy with a high near 77. The chance of precipitation is 60%, with potential rainfall between a tenth and a quarter inch, though locally higher amounts are possible in storms.

Saturday night, showers and thunderstorms are likely before 8 p.m., with additional rain chances continuing into the late evening and overnight. Lows will dip to around 61, with a 60% chance of precipitation.

Sunday will remain mostly cloudy, with a 40% chance of showers and a cooler high near 75.
