WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 39-year-old woman died Monday night after being struck by two vehicles on New York Avenue NE, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
At approximately 9:32 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to a report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian in the 2800 block of New York Avenue NE. When they arrived, they found the woman unconscious and not breathing. DC Fire and EMS personnel declared her dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Sierra Nichole Smith, 39, of no fixed address.
According to a preliminary investigation, the semi-trailer truck was traveling eastbound in the 1600 block of New York Avenue when the woman ran into the roadway, stumbled, and fell in front of the vehicle. The truck struck her, pinning her beneath it. As the truck continued eastbound, the woman’s body was dislodged and struck again by a silver 2007 Chevrolet Suburban following behind.
MPD continues crash investigation
Both drivers remained on the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. Detectives from the Major Crash Investigations Unit are leading the case.
