ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A 15-year-old male was arrested Monday after Atlantic City police recovered a stolen, loaded handgun from his waistband following a tip from an off-duty detective.
According to the Atlantic City Police Department, Detective Eric Evans received information about an armed juvenile near the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue on June 16. Though off-duty at the time, Evans relayed the details to Officer John Bell, who responded to the area.
Upon arrival, Officer Bell observed a group of young males loitering and identified one matching the description provided. After additional officers arrived, the juvenile was taken into custody without incident.
Police said the handgun recovered from the 15-year-old’s waistband had been reported stolen from Egg Harbor City, N.J. The firearm was also found to be defaced, which typically indicates the serial number was removed or altered.
The juvenile, a resident of Atlantic City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, and receiving stolen property.
