91 year old Baltimore woman scores $50K lottery win and plans to give back

Grandmother lands $50K scratch off win in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD — A 91-year-old woman who has played scratch-off tickets for decades is celebrating her largest win yet after claiming a $50,000 prize from a ticket purchased during a routine stop at a local gas station.

The Baltimore resident claimed her prize Monday at Maryland Lottery headquarters after playing the $5 Money Maker scratch-off.

She told officials she has been playing since the early days of the Maryland Lottery, typically winning smaller amounts over the years. This latest prize marked her biggest win.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Shell station located at 7001 Liberty Road in Baltimore. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.

According to lottery officials, the woman bought several scratch-offs while out with her niece and planned to play them over time. After returning home, she scratched the winning ticket and discovered the $50,000 prize.

She asked her niece to confirm the result before realizing the win was valid.

The winner said she plans to use the money to support her community, including donations to her church and helping family members.

Lottery officials said she has no plans to stop playing.
