Woman with dementia located after multi state journey

Gaithersburg, MD — A missing New York woman who had been driving across multiple states for nearly a full day was located safe in Montgomery County after authorities tracked her vehicle using technology and coordinated efforts.

Judith Woodard, who has Alzheimer’s and dementia, was reported missing under a Silver Alert Sunday morning by police in Suffolk County, New York.

Investigators determined she had traveled through New York, New Jersey, and into Maryland over the course of nearly 24 hours. Her location was identified after her cellphone was pinged in Montgomery County and license plate reader technology helped narrow her movements.

Officers from Montgomery County’s 4th District located Woodard at the intersection of Randolph Road and New Hampshire Avenue.

She was found safe inside her vehicle and transported to a local hospital before being reunited with her family.

Authorities did not report any injuries.
