WASHINGTON, DC — Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a fatal January shooting in Southeast Washington, DC, in which a 23-year-old man was killed. The arrest was announced Friday by the Metropolitan Police Department.
The homicide occurred on January 16th when Sixth District officers responded to a report of gunfire on the 2400 block of S Street SE at approximately 5:12 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Javonni Coleman, 23, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Coleman, a resident of Southeast DC, was pronounced dead at the scene and later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The most recent arrest took place on Thursday, November 7, when members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 28-year-old Delonte Terrell of Brandywine, Maryland. Terrell was transported to the MPD Homicide Branch, where he was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed, in accordance with a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.
Police previously arrested a 21-year-old man from Oxon Hill, Maryland, in connection with the same homicide. That arrest was made on August 7th by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. The Oxon Hill suspect was also charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
The case remains active as investigators work to piece together details surrounding Coleman’s death.
