Two Mega Millions tickets worth $5 million sold at same Harlem store

MANHATTAN, NY – One Manhattan lottery retailer struck gold twice this week after selling not one but two second-prize Mega Millions tickets totaling $5 million in winnings for the August 15 drawing.

Both tickets were purchased at Best of Harlem, located at 585 Lenox Avenue in Harlem. One ticket is worth $2 million, and the other hit for $3 million. The New York Lottery confirmed the sales Friday.

The $2 million and $3 million prizes are awarded when a player matches the first five numbers but not the Mega Ball and selects the Megaplier option, which multiplies winnings for an extra cost. The base second prize is $1 million.

The winning numbers for the August 15 Mega Millions draw were selected from a pool of one to 70, with the Mega Ball drawn separately from a field of one to 24. The Mega Millions game is drawn every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m.

It remains unclear whether the two prize-winning tickets were purchased by the same individual or separate players.

The New York Lottery, the most profitable in North America, contributed $3.6 billion to the state’s public education system for fiscal year 2024–2025.
