Quiet win for Kent County man who scores $50K Pick 5 prize with quick pick ticket

CHESTERTOWN, MD — A retired warehouse worker from Kent County stayed silent after discovering he had won $50,000 on a Maryland Lottery Pick 5 ticket — quietly checking his numbers, leaving the store, and waiting until he got home to share the news with his wife.

The longtime Lottery player, who uses the quick pick option for every drawing, received the number 36214 for the October 27 drawing. That number hit for the game’s top prize, and he claimed his winnings on October 30 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The winning ticket was purchased at Suds-N-Soda, located at 1014 Washington Avenue in Chestertown. The retailer receives a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.

The Eastern Shore resident has been playing Lottery games for 20 years and says he plans to use the prize money to handle personal financial matters. In his free time, he and his wife enjoy riding bicycles along scenic parts of the northern shore.

Pick 5 is a daily game that offers players a chance to win up to $50,000 by matching all five digits in exact order.
