Gunfire erupts on Leslie Street as Newark police search for shooting suspect
Newark, NJ — Newark police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man wanted in connection with a shooting last month in the city’s South Ward, after gunfire was detected in the early morning hours of Nov. 14.
Just after 4 a.m., the city’s ShotSpotter system alerted officers to shots fired in the 300 block of Leslie Street. Responding officers arrived on scene and located two 9mm shell casings, but no victims were reported and no arrests have been made.
The Newark Department of Public Safety released an image of the person they believe is connected to the incident. Officials are urging anyone who can identify the man to contact the department’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line.

The suspect has not been publicly named, and police have not confirmed whether any property damage or injuries resulted from the gunfire.
The case remains under investigation as police continue to follow leads. Authorities say tips submitted to the Crime Stopper line or through the department’s website will remain confidential and may be eligible for a cash reward.
