Suspects wanted after distraction theft in Chinatown leaves victim without phone and wallet
Washington, DC — A robbery in broad daylight unfolded in Chinatown when suspects used a distraction to steal a victim’s phone and wallet, prompting a search for those involved.
The incident occurred around 11:33 a.m. April 1 in the 900 block of H Street Northeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Investigators said two suspects approached the victim asking for spare change and assistance using a cell phone. As the victim attempted to help by calling a number provided, one of the suspects snatched the phone and wallet before fleeing with the second suspect.
Surveillance cameras captured images of the suspects, as well as two additional individuals identified as persons of interest.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are asking anyone who can identify the suspects or has information about the incident to call (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
