Ohio woman scores $1.8M on unexpected ticket
Springfield, OH — A lottery purchase that wasn’t supposed to happen ended in a seven-figure payout after a Springfield woman held onto a ticket she nearly exchanged.
The winner claimed a $1,852,212 jackpot playing the Ohio Lottery’s EZPLAY Jackpot USA game after buying a ticket she initially didn’t intend to keep. She decided against switching it, citing stories of wins tied to similar situations.
Lottery officials said the ticket was purchased at Che’s Rustic Lounge on North Bechtle Avenue in Springfield.
After realizing the ticket was a winner, attempts to validate it at the store were unsuccessful, leading to uncertainty. The woman later brought the ticket to a regional lottery office, where the jackpot was confirmed.
Following required taxes, she will receive $1,356,745.29.
She said she plans to pay off her home and car, cover medical expenses, and consult a financial advisor regarding the remaining funds.
