Former television judge and current U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced a sweeping 69-count indictment against an 18-year-old accused of opening fire into a crowded Washington, D.C., bus stop earlier this year.
Anthony Del Cid-Morales, of the District of Columbia, is charged with multiple violent felonies connected to the January 2026 shooting that left five people injured near 16th Street NW and Missouri Avenue NW.
The charges include assault with intent to kill while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, aggravated assault while armed, and additional enhancements tied to crimes allegedly committed against Metro Transit passengers.
Prosecutors Say Shooting Followed Bus Altercation
According to prosecutors, the violence erupted on Jan. 22, 2026, at approximately 5:40 p.m. after Del Cid-Morales allegedly sexually assaulted a juvenile girl aboard a Metro bus, sparking a confrontation.
Investigators say the victim and several friends exited the bus at a stop moments later while Del Cid-Morales left through the front exit.
Authorities allege Del Cid-Morales then pulled out a handgun, racked the slide, and fired five shots into a crowd of more than 15 people gathered at the bus stop.
Five victims were struck by gunfire, including three people connected to the juvenile victim. Another victim was reportedly waiting for a bus, while a fifth was taking an evening walk nearby.
All five victims survived with what prosecutors described as minor injuries.
Pirro Announces Aggressive Prosecution
Pirro, who recently took over as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, announced the indictment alongside officials from the ATF Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department.
Superior Court Judge Jason Park scheduled a detention hearing for July 10.
Authorities said Del Cid-Morales allegedly fled the scene on foot after the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing and involves the Metropolitan Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and ATF ballistic investigators.
