Officers allege suspect carried Glock fitted with conversion device and stolen from Pennsylvania
TRENTON, NJ — A patrol through Trenton’s Unity Square Park led officers to a 23-year-old man who allegedly fled on foot while carrying a stolen Glock pistol modified to fire automatically, according to the Trenton Police Department.
The arrest occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. Monday, July 20, when Officers Derrick Tosado and Cornell Huff were patrolling the area of Hamilton Avenue and Division Street.
According to police, the officers observed two men walking near the playground after park hours and exited their patrol vehicle to issue summonses for being in the park after closing.
Police said one of the men, identified as 23-year-old Felix Delacruz, appeared to shove an object into his waistband in an apparent attempt to conceal it from officers.
When confronted, Delacruz allegedly fled on foot before being apprehended after a brief chase.
Investigators said Delacruz was found carrying a black Glock Gen19 semi-automatic handgun that had been modified with a “switch,” a conversion device that police said gave the firearm fully automatic firing capability.
The handgun was also equipped with a high-capacity magazine capable of holding 31 rounds, according to police.
A search of the immediate area also led officers to recover a quantity of suspected marijuana, police said.
Investigators later determined the firearm had been reported stolen from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Delacruz was transported to Trenton Police Headquarters and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine, receiving stolen property, certain person not to possess weapons, being in a park after hours, obstruction of the administration of law and resisting arrest.
The charges are allegations, and Delacruz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
