Toms River, NJ – The Ocean County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to introduce seven capital spending ordinances that would appropriate $16.9 million from the county’s Capital Improvement Fund for projects ranging from library renovations to public safety upgrades.
The proposals, which appear on the board’s upcoming meeting agenda, would fund improvements at county libraries, golf courses, parks, the Ocean County Jail, and emergency communications infrastructure. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 29 at the Ocean County Administration building in Toms River at 4pm.
Libraries, parks and recreation projects
The largest recreation-related proposal is Ordinance 2026-28, which would appropriate $5 million for capital renovations, improvements, and upgrades at various county golf courses.
Commissioners will also consider:
- Ordinance 2026-27: $1 million for renovations, improvements, and upgrades at various branches of the Ocean County Library System.
- Ordinance 2026-29: $2 million for redevelopment projects at various county parks.
- Ordinance 2026-30: $400,000 to design a maintenance building for the Hickory Lane section of the Barnegat Branch Trail in Berkeley Township.
Public safety projects top spending agenda
Several proposals focus on county public safety infrastructure and law enforcement technology.
Commissioners are expected to introduce Ordinance 2026-31, appropriating $1.5 million for a countywide wireless two-zone radio system intended to support emergency communications.
Another proposal, Ordinance 2026-32, would allocate $4 million to upgrade the security system at the Ocean County Corrections Facility in Toms River.
The board will also consider Ordinance 2026-33, appropriating $3 million for Phase II of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office body camera program. The funding would cover the purchase of body-worn cameras, software, and related equipment.
If introduced, each ordinance will proceed through the county’s public hearing and adoption process before the funds can be spent.
