ROXBURY, NJ — Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, and Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone announced the arrest of Auraceli A. Maldonado, 24, of Irvington. Maldonado is connected to the shooting of a man at the Roxbury Motel on October 18.
On that day, at around 8:54 PM, authorities were called to the Roxbury Motel on Route 46 in Roxbury. Police officers found a 36-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the leg and provided medical aid. The victim was transported to a medical center with severe, but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Investigations revealed that the victim had arranged to meet an unknown suspect at the motel. Surveillance footage showed a Honda Accord with New York registration arriving at the motel. A man and a woman, believed to be Maldonado, were seen exiting the vehicle. It is alleged that during the meeting, the woman was armed with an AR-style rifle. The suspects reportedly robbed the victim, who was shot in the leg during a struggle for the firearm, and then fled the scene.
Maldonado, the registered owner of the Honda Accord seen at the motel, was later detained in Middleburg, Florida on November 2, 2023. The male suspect remains unapprehended.
Maldonado faces several charges, including Armed Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Following her arrest, she was extradited to New Jersey from Florida and is currently held at the Morris County Correctional Facility. A preindictment conference is scheduled for January 9, 2024, before Judge Ralph E. Amirata.
