Brooklyn Man Sentenced for Attempted Murder in Drive-By Shooting
**Brooklyn, NY** – A Brooklyn man received a 10-year prison sentence on Thursday after pleading guilty to second-degree attempted murder. The charges stem from a 2021 incident where he fired at an Uber Eats driver during a random drive-by shooting.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced that Laquan Battle, 28, from New Lots, Brooklyn, was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Jane Tully. The defendant also faces five years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty on September 25.
The incident occurred on December 5, 2021, around 11:45 p.m. on Pacific Street in Crown Heights. The victim, a 22-year-old driver, was in his Toyota when Battle allegedly fired approximately four shots from a red Kia, hitting the victim’s car and another parked vehicle.
Detectives from the 77th precinct traced the car’s license plate through surveillance video, leading them to identify Battle as the shooter. He was apprehended in Jonesboro, Georgia, in May 2022 and subsequently brought back to New York.

**Cumberland, MD** – The Cumberland Police Department arrested two individuals on Thursday, November 7, on separate charges, including a fugitive from justice and a DUI incident.
Irron Lateef Daye, 46, of Cumberland, was arrested on charges of being a fugitive from justice, following the discovery of an open bench warrant from Monongalia County, WV. The warrant accused Daye of failing to appear in court for a CDS distribution charge. He was presented before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and was subsequently remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is held without bond, awaiting extradition to West Virginia.
Additionally, the police responded to a report of a suspicious individual in a vehicle at the intersection of Second St and Seymour St. The officers found Joseph Robert Benson III, 40, also of Cumberland, passed out in a running Honda passenger vehicle. Upon investigation, suspected CDS was observed inside the vehicle, leading to further inquiries. Benson was ordered out of the vehicle, resisted arrest, and attempted to escape but was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Upon arrival, they found Scott David Guhse, 51, of Glen Burnie, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. A 22-year-old man was also found at the scene, claiming to be a victim of assault and the shooter.
The Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Detectives and evidence collectors gather information and evidence. Initial findings suggest the young man was on a motorcycle when a vehicle drove erratically behind him. The vehicle driver allegedly approached the motorcyclist with a hammer, prompting the 22-year-old to use a handgun in self-defense.

Stamford Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash
**Stamford, CT** – The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that happened on Long Ridge Road near its intersection with Brook Run Lane early Thursday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. involving a 2014 BMW motorcycle.
The motorcycle was traveling northbound when it left the roadway, striking a fence before hitting a tree. The operator was ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the crash.
