Utica man arrested after stabbing cousin during argument on Second Street

UTICA, NY — A family dispute inside a Second Street home turned violent Tuesday afternoon when a man was stabbed in the arm with a kitchen knife, leading to an arrest and felony assault charges, police said.

Around noon, Utica Police and Utica Fire units were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Second Street for a reported stabbing. Responding crews encountered a male victim suffering from a stab wound to his arm.

According to investigators, the victim told officers he had been arguing with his cousin when the confrontation escalated. During the dispute, the suspect allegedly produced a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the forearm.

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Luis Claudio-Estrada of Utica, was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Utica Police Department. The victim was taken to Wynn Hospital, where he was treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Following the investigation, Claudio-Estrada was charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. The case remains under review.
