D.C. alleyway turns deadly in weekend shooting

Man killed in alley shooting in Northeast D.C. as police search for suspect

WASHINGTON, DC – A man was shot and killed Saturday evening in a Northeast D.C. alley, sparking a homicide investigation as police work to determine what led to the deadly gunfire.

Just before 6:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in an alleyway behind the 4400 block of Jay Street NE. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.

The alley, located in a residential area of Northeast, was quickly sealed off by police as the investigation began. No arrests have been made, and investigators have not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of family.

Police have also not identified any suspects or shared a possible motive for the shooting. Detectives remained on scene late into the night, canvassing the area for surveillance footage and potential witnesses.

This marks another fatal shooting in the District amid an ongoing effort by city officials to reduce gun violence in neighborhoods that have seen repeated incidents in recent months.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via text to 50411.
