Delaware woman charged in Ventnor City hit-and-run that seriously injured 92-year-old man

VENTNOR CITY, NJ – A 51-year-old Delaware woman has been charged in connection with a November hit-and-run that left a 92-year-old Ventnor resident seriously injured, police announced Monday.

According to the Ventnor City Police Department, the crash occurred around 6:16 p.m. on Nov. 20 at Ventnor and Newport Avenues, when officers received multiple 911 calls reporting a pedestrian struck by a vehicle that fled the scene heading west on Ventnor Avenue. Responding units found the victim lying in the roadway with severe injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a white Volvo SUV, possibly an XC40, bearing Delaware registration. Through a joint investigation by the Patrol Division and Detective Bureau, detectives determined the driver to be Leslie Myers of Weldin Park, Delaware.

Myers was charged by warrant with assault by auto, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, and multiple motor vehicle offenses. On Jan. 7, she was taken into custody by the O’Hara Township Police Department in Pennsylvania and is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

Chief Joseph Wootton commended his officers for their persistence, noting the emotional impact of the case on those involved. “They put in a lot of hours identifying the accused and bringing charges forth. I am proud of the hard work and effort they went through in bringing closure to this investigation,” Wootton said.
