Four-alarm blaze engulfs Camden building marked for demolition

CAMDEN, N.J. – A massive four-alarm fire tore through an abandoned red brick building marked for demolition late Saturday night, lighting up the Camden skyline as firefighters battled the flames for hours.

Photos and videos released by the Camden Fire Department show the structure, surrounded by fencing and “Demolition” signs, fully engulfed in orange flames as thick plumes of smoke rose into the night sky. The fire broke out in a commercial area where several vacant properties have been slated for removal, officials said.

Witnesses described seeing the glow from blocks away as emergency crews rushed to the scene. Video captured by residents shows flames leaping above the rooftops, with smoke visible across the neighborhood.

Firefighters worked into the early morning to bring the blaze under control. No injuries were immediately reported, and investigators are working to determine what sparked the fire.

Authorities said the property had been vacant for several years and was awaiting demolition as part of Camden’s ongoing redevelopment efforts.
