On July 1, detectives arrested a 17-year-old juvenile in Manassas Park with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Police had previously charged Markiss Alexander Medrano and a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the homicide.

Victim found after attempting to flee

Police said officers responded around 9:57 p.m. on June 15 to reports of gunfire near Old Centreville Road and Parkland Street.

Investigators determined Chavez had been shot in the upper body in the Bull Run Mobile Home Community. After being wounded, he attempted to flee before collapsing in the backyard of a residence on Parrish Lane, where officers found him and attempted lifesaving measures. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also found a nearby residence on Peppertree Lane had been struck by gunfire. Detectives believe the incident was targeted and not random.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Prince William County Police Department.
