Grocery ticket wins big as Newington shopper snags $100K

Connecticut shopper hits $100K jackpot with winning CASH5 ticket sold in Newington

NEWINGTON, CT – A Connecticut lottery player struck it big after purchasing a winning CASH5 ticket worth $100,000 at Newington Food Land, turning an ordinary day into a six-figure payday.

The Connecticut Lottery confirmed the top-prize ticket was sold for Sunday night’s CASH5 drawing at the store located in Newington. The lucky winner matched all five numbers drawn, securing one of the game’s top payouts.

While the identity of the winner has not been released, lottery officials stated the prize was claimed earlier this week, in accordance with protocol for wins of this size. Under Connecticut law, winners of prizes over $50,000 must collect their winnings at the lottery’s headquarters in Rocky Hill, where their ticket is verified and payout processed.

CASH5 is one of the Connecticut Lottery’s daily draw games, requiring players to choose five numbers from a pool of 35. The odds of hitting all five numbers and winning the $100,000 jackpot are 1 in 324,632. The game remains popular for its relatively high top prize compared to its low ticket cost.

The Newington Food Land retailer that sold the winning ticket is also entitled to a bonus from the Connecticut Lottery as part of its retailer incentive program.

This is the second $100,000 CASH5 winner announced in the state within days, following a separate winning ticket sold at a Manchester Stop & Shop, signaling a lucky streak among Connecticut players this week.

The jackpot for CASH5 has since reset, and the next drawing will continue as scheduled.
