Fatal motorcycle crash on DC-295 under investigation after rider dies from injuries

WASHINGTON, DC – Saturday – Traffic slowed along a busy stretch of DC-295 after a high-speed motorcycle crash set off a chain reaction of impacts that ended days later with the rider’s death, prompting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

The crash occurred Thursday afternoon along southbound DC-295 just before exit 2B. According to preliminary findings, a black 2009 Honda CBR 1000RR motorcycle was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and splitting lanes when it struck the rear bumper of a black 2015 Mini Cooper Countryman.

After the initial impact, the rider was thrown from the motorcycle. The unmanned motorcycle then continued forward and struck the rear bumper of a black 2015 Ford Edge, resulting in a secondary collision. The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene following the crash.

The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. He later died from those injuries on Friday.

The rider has been identified as 38-year-old Clarence Lemons, who was listed as having no fixed address.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact police at 202-727-9099 or submit a tip by text to 50411.
