Lititz man charged after bullet from loaded gun enters neighbor’s home during cleaning mishap

Lititz, PA – A man who told investigators he was cleaning a loaded handgun when it fired and sent a bullet into his neighbor’s home is now headed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing earlier this month.

Jason M. Paulin, 48, waived the hearing before Judge Joseph Stauffer on October 31, allowing the case to advance on charges that include discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure and recklessly endangering another person. The incident happened the morning of October 9 at Paulin’s residence in the 700 block of Keller Drive.

Police said Paulin reported he was wiping down the handgun around 9 a.m. when it discharged, sending a round through his own window. Officers responding to the scene found that the bullet continued into a neighboring home, damaging both the glass storm door and the main door. At least one person was inside the residence at the time.

Investigators located the still-loaded firearm inside Paulin’s bedroom. No injuries were reported.

Paulin was released on $20,000 unsecured bail. The charges were filed by Lititz Borough Police Officer Cameron Burke. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
