Masked intruder caught after cutting power inside Dorchester apartment

Boston, MA – A predawn break-in turned chilling when residents awoke to darkness and discovered a stranger inside their Dorchester apartment, leading to a quick arrest after officers rushed to the scene.

The incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment building located at 1220 Adams Street. Officers responding to a breaking-and-entering call spotted a man in the building lobby matching the suspect description and detained him while the investigation continued.

Residents of the targeted apartment told officers they were awakened when their lights suddenly went out. They said someone inside the unit had flipped circuit breakers controlling the apartment’s electricity. When they left their bedrooms to investigate, they found an unknown man inside the apartment moving items around.

The residents said they did not know the intruder but recognized him from an encounter the day before, when he allegedly placed black tape over their door peephole. At that time, the man reportedly claimed he had the wrong address. When officers arrived early Wednesday morning, residents discovered black tape had again been placed over the peephole.

The suspect was identified as 37-year-old George Williams of Quincy. Following the investigation, Williams was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of breaking and entering at night and trespassing.
