Migrant Father Sentenced to 16 Years After Decade of Sexual Abuse of Daughter in Suffolk County

A Suffolk County man will spend 16 years in prison after admitting he sexually abused his biological daughter for more than a decade, beginning when she was just six years old.

A 46-year-old Salvadoran national was sentenced Thursday to 16 years in state prison after pleading guilty to repeatedly sexually abusing his daughter over a period spanning more than 11 years, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.

The defendant, whose name is being withheld by prosecutors to protect the identity of the child victim, pleaded guilty in April to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony. Suffolk County Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis imposed the sentence on Thursday.

Abuse Continued for Years

According to court records and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea, the abuse began in January 2014 when the victim was six years old and continued for years inside the family home.

Prosecutors said the defendant carried out the abuse when other family members were away from the residence or while members of the household were asleep. The abuse continued until shortly before the crimes were reported to authorities in August 2025.

On August 5, 2025, the victim disclosed the abuse to her brother and mother. After learning of the allegations, the victim’s mother contacted police.

The defendant was arrested the following day, August 6, 2025.

District Attorney Praises Victim’s Courage

District Attorney Tierney said the sentence reflects the severity of the crimes and commended the victim for coming forward.

“A father is supposed to protect his child. Period,” Tierney said in a statement.

“This defendant repeatedly betrayed that responsibility for years, and today’s sentence holds him accountable for the harm he caused,” he added. “I thank the victim for bravely coming forward and testifying under such difficult circumstances.”

Prosecutors said the defendant admitted his conduct during his guilty plea before Justice Wilutis on April 29.

Additional Supervision and ICE Detainer

In addition to the prison sentence, the defendant was ordered to serve 20 years of post-release supervision after his release from custody.

Authorities said he will also be required to register as a sex offender.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against the defendant and intends to take custody of him following the completion of state proceedings.

Assistant District Attorney Katherine Flinchum of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau prosecuted the case. The investigation was conducted by Detective Christian Vasquez of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Section.
