A North Ridgeville man used numbers tied to family memories and birthdays to win a $100,001 Rolling Cash 5 prize.
North Ridgeville, Ohio — A Navy veteran who had been playing the same meaningful numbers for years finally saw them pay off with a $100,001 Ohio Lottery jackpot.
Brian C. of North Ridgeville purchased his winning Rolling Cash 5 ticket on June 10 at VFW Post #9871, located at 6805 Lear Nagle Road in North Ridgeville.
A few days later, while at work, Brian learned that the winning ticket had been sold at the VFW. He checked his ticket and realized he had matched all five numbers to win the jackpot.
According to the Ohio Lottery, Brian jumped up, dropped his phone and started screaming after discovering he had won. A coworker jokingly asked whether he had seen a mouse.
The winning numbers carried deep personal meaning for the Navy veteran.
Brian said he and his cousin had played the numbers 11, 22 and 28 for years while playing KENO before his cousin passed away. His other selections, 3 and 31, were tied to special birthdays.
After mandatory federal and state tax withholdings totaling 26.75%, Brian will receive approximately $73,250.73.
The winner said he plans to pay off some bills and take a trip, though he has not yet decided on a destination.
Rolling Cash 5 drawings are held daily and feature a starting jackpot of $100,000. The odds of matching all five numbers and winning the jackpot are 1 in 575,757.
The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
