NEWARK, N.J. — Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is requesting the public’s help in identifying two suspects involved in an armed robbery that took place on July 12.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. in the 300 block of Lafayette Street. Two Black males approached the victim, with one suspect brandishing a knife and engaging in a physical altercation with the victim.

The second suspect grabbed the victim’s leg as both men searched the victim’s pockets, taking a cell phone and wallet. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.

Surveillance footage captured the suspects near Ferry and Polk Streets minutes before the robbery. One of the suspects is described as having a beard and wearing dark clothing.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information regarding the suspects’ identities to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips can remain anonymous.
