Pemberton man sentenced to 4 years after fleeing police on Garden State Parkway, nearly crashing

MAYS LANDING, N.J. — A Pemberton man was sentenced Friday to four years in New Jersey State Prison for second-degree eluding after leading state police on a high-speed chase in 2023, authorities said.

Raekwon Davis, 27, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Joseph Levin on June 6 for an incident that occurred on May 1, 2023, on the Garden State Parkway.

According to prosecutors, New Jersey State Police observed Davis driving over 100 mph, weaving through traffic, failing to maintain his lane, tailgating other vehicles, and passing on the highway shoulder. Troopers attempted to pull him over near milepost 49 on the Mullica River bridge, where Davis briefly slowed and pulled to the shoulder before accelerating away.

He then exited the highway at Exit 48, nearly losing control of his vehicle in the process.

Davis was later apprehended and charged with second-degree eluding, a charge that carries a presumption of incarceration under New Jersey law.

No injuries or crashes were reported as a result of the pursuit, and no other charges were announced in connection with the sentencing.

Davis will serve his sentence in state prison and is subject to New Jersey’s No Early Release Act provisions.
