GAITHERSBURG, MD – Authorities have arrested one of two men wanted in connection with a deadly North Bethesda apartment shooting that left a 29-year-old man dead last month.

Investigators say 18-year-old Joshua Carter was taken into custody Wednesday by members of the U.S. Marshals Service in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Carter was wanted for the September 21 killing of Akwalabeng Fontava inside Fontava’s North Bethesda apartment.

Arrest made after multi-state investigation

Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division tracked Carter’s movements after identifying him as one of the suspects in the homicide. Working with the U.S. Marshals Service – Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force, officers located him Wednesday at a Fayetteville residence and arrested him without incident.

One suspect still sought

Carter is being held in North Carolina pending extradition to Maryland, where he faces multiple felony charges including first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, and two counts of armed robbery. Police say 25-year-old Justin Michael Greene Collins is still at large and should be considered dangerous.
